DSPS Services Approved services are based on individual functional and/or educational limitations as outlined in the student’s disability verification, and may include: Individualized Counseling: Academic, Career, Personal Disability Management Strategies Test Taking Accommodations Note Taking Services Equipment Loans Alternate Formatting Interpreting Services CART Services DSPS Computer Lab Limited Learning Disability Assessment Mobility Services Adaptive Physical Education (offered through PE Department) Study Coaches Workability III Learning Skills Courses (credit) Adaptive Learning-Transition to Work Courses (non-credit) 1/2/2022 3
Steps to DSPS 1) Apply to Delta College 2) Take assessment (Assessment Center located in De. Ricco 110) 3) Attend a New Student Group Advising (NSGA) session • Call DSPS two days in advance to arrange for accommodations 4) Make appointment with DSPS Counselor and bring* disability verification from an appropriate certifying professional (IEP, Joaquin Delta College Disability Verification Form, Sanetc. ) • • Complete New Student Intake Review disability documentation Discuss approved accommodations Discuss development of a Comprehensive Student Educational Plan (CSEP) *Appointments rescheduled for students who are late or who do not bring disability documentation. Transition to College Differences between high school and college… K-12 College District identifies students Established eligibility Develop IEP/ITP Provides support and/or special classes Ensures IEP is implemented & goals met Parents & Special Ed professionals advocate for student Fundamental alteration is allowed in program of study & instructional methods Student may receive Certificate of Completion instead of diploma Personal attendant services may be provided Transportation to and from school San Joaquin Delta College Student self-identifies; requests services Student submits disability verification outlining functional/educational limitations Provides academic accommodations & limited Special Education courses Student is responsible for own goals & progress Student advocates for self, DSPS provides support & guidance Accommodations do not alter fundamental nature of credit courses, degree or certificate requirements Student may receive approved vocational certificate or AA/AS degree Student provides attendant care Public transportation, Dial-ARide/C. TASK 2017 Transition for Academic Success is Key (TASK) TASK is an intensive orientation for students who learn differently, offered Monday - Thursday, June 5 – 15, 8: 15 am to 12: 45 pm. Online applications accepted April 3 – May 5. Limited to 25 students.
