A Review Recommendations International Students/Schools/Satellite Programs Next Big Thing in Accreditation!
Co. A Recommendations- March 2017 Recommendation: The SAIS staff should review ways in which the schools could develop a more even approach to the writing of their school reports. • Response: SAIS Accreditation Workshop attendance is now mandatory.
Recommendation: There have been situations when there has been inadequate time for compliance issues to be fully sorted out and resolved by the school prior to the arrival of the Visiting Committee. The SAIS staff should consider adjusting the timing of Pre-Visits for the fall visiting team to the early spring of the preceding year. • Response: The current requirement for pre -visits is 6 -9 months prior to the team visit. We request that chairs schedule the previsit closer to 9 months prior to the team visit.
A Second Set of Recommendation: The SAIS Staff should consider what vulnerabilities are inherent in the Pre-Visit which currently relies solely on the abilities and expertise the chair to discern adherence to established standards and compliance criteria that range from the basic to the complex. SAIS Staff might consider adding additional experienced personnel to the Pre-Visit or reducing the required workload. • Response: Add a second person/co-chair when requested by the chair to the review of the documents in the portal.

Pre. Visit those are some good resources!
Pre. Visit – phone call/email notes Call ahead to let them know you are coming! YOU AND THE SCHOOL set the date of the previsit. The previsit is very busy – you should plan for a full day and possibly come in the evening before. www. sais. org/acc_previsit_note
Pre. Visit – suggested schedule Suggested Previsit schedule. Make sure that you have read all of the school’s responses to standards prior to arrival. With an aggressive schedule like this, you need to be very well prepared. www. sais. org/acc_previsit_proced ure

Pre. Visit – what does that mean? “The absence of these documents may delay the accreditation process” This phrase is now in the Guidebook and in the Portal about documents and artifacts that should be present in order to substantiate that a school meets standards. Let the school know what docs or evidence they are missing so that you can see it. www. sais. org/acc_documents
Documents and Documentation www. sais. org/acc_documents
VISIT – schedule template Revised schedule template suggests building in time for conversations among team members to come to consensus on standards and on commendations/recommendations. Still, a very busy time! www. sais. org/acc_schedule_templ ate
VISIT – training your team You lead your team through a presentation to train them. Usually this is done at the start of the visit during the first two hours. You are welcome to use technology to conduct this meeting before people arrive on site (goto meeting, google hangout, zoom meeting, skype, there are many web conferencing tools) • USE THE POWERPOINT • USE THE SCRIPT www. sais. org/acc_chair_presentati on www. sais. org/acc_chair_script
VISIT – team assignments Team members are assigned to match up with the school’s strategic goal areas (as best as possible). If you can’t tell a team member’s areas of expertise or interest from their title, just ask them. In addition to goal areas, assign team members standards for due diligence.
