FCCLA UNITE IN RED CAMPAIGN! ● ● California FCCLA will be awarding 1 free blazer per chapter. Approximately 40 blazers will be awarded. Criteria: chapter advisor must complete a short application, provide a 250 word rationale for the need, must provide a blazer size, and must attend the State Leadership Conference to pick up the blazer. The application will be posted to the state Web site early October.

OCCUPATIONAL OR SENIOR PROGRAM? ● Junior Program = 6, 7, 8, 9 th grade (Comprehensive) ● Senior Program = 10, 11, 12 th grade, beginning level only, no capstone (Comprehensive) ● Occupational = Capstone class, or 2+ year pathway (Occupational) Affiliate these Students as Occupational: ● Culinary Arts, Culinary Display, Teach & Train ● MUST be in an occupational course to compete in these events. ● Page 3 General Rules and Guidelines

SPECIAL NEEDS OR ACCOMMODATIONS ● Requests must be made 3 weeks in advance of Region AND AGAIN for State Leadership Conference ● Accommodations cannot be made the day of the event ● Email Melissa Webb ● Transgender/Name changed counts - affiliate them as preferred name

CRE DRESS CHECK FORM
GENERAL DISQUALIFICATIONS Participants will be disqualified and not allowed to compete when any of the following occur. 1. Does not submit a completed “CRE Student Permission Form” and photo ID. 2. Does not adhere to the dress code policy (i. e. wears jeans). Students must wear at least 3 parts of the official dress which include: a white collared front button down dress shirt with sleeves, black slacks/skirt, black dress shoes, and appropriate accessories. Please see CRE Official Dress Policy. 3. Name is not listed on the CRE Room Consultants “Participant Data Sheet” 4. Does not report to orientation at the scheduled time 5. Does not attend the entire orientation …. . Continued
GENERAL DISQUALIFICATIONS Participants will be disqualified and not allowed to compete when any of the following occur. Continued: 6. Does not bring all supplies/materials/equipment, as specified for the event, to the beginning of orientation. 7. Is not ready to begin preparation or presentation when his/her name is called. NOTE: To prevent disqualification, CRE participants should be either in the presentation room or directly outside the door. 8. Presents the same presentation as in a previous year 9. Uses live animals or fire as part of the presentation 10. Does not attend the CRE Check-In and/or Awards Ceremony 11. Uses a substitute to accept his or her award
ROOM CONSULTANTS ● Perform dress check ● Check ID and collect participant forms (see DQ rules) ● Announce to all evaluators what theme is. (Some won’t know there is a theme. ) ● Instruct evaluators how to give constructive feedback! ● Follow time guidelines in event descriptions to keep to time schedules. (ex. - 5 minutes for questioning, 5 minutes for evaluating rubrics)
Room Consultants: KNOW Your Event!!! Read and dissect your event two weeks before event You are representing FCCLA to our business professionals Be ONE with your event
Negative Feedback from Evaluators: “Our Room Consultant did not know the rules of the event. ” “I would suggest having Room Consultants that are not only knowledgeable of the event, but also of the evaluation/judging process. ” “It seemed a bit unorganized when we first arrived as our Room Consultant had not arrived yet. It would have been helpful if the Room Consultant had arrived before the Evaluators so that they were there to explain things and answer questions prior to the contest itself as a first -time Evaluator, I felt rushed to get my questions answered. I did not meet my Room Consultant until approx. 5 -10 minutes before the competitors arrived. ”
Back Again: ROOM CONSULTANT ASSISTANT ● ● Non-competing student, parent or non-member Provide CRE Chairperson with 3 people who can serve in this role ● Monitor times for presenting, evaluators reviewing portfolios, evaluators scoring, etc. ● Call in competitors ● Runner for lunch ● Great way to see the event first hand for next year ● Double check adding of scores

SECURING EVALUATORS ● Site Coordinators need your help! ● Parents, Family Members, Teachers, Admin, College Students ● Each chapter bring 3 evaluators?
EVALUATORS ● ● Allowed to talk, not collaborate. Can discuss “Did we see X? ” “Yes, the student said…. ” CIRCLE and WRITE scores Average scores to nearest hundredth of a point = 97. 65 NEW this year: Evaluators do not need to calibrate their scores. Evaluator’s scores are FINAL!
Spring Meeting Morning Schedule 7: 30 am Chapters, Advisors & Room Consultants Arrive; Advisors- register students, pay for lunch, bring all supplies to General Session Room 8: 15 am Room Consultant & Room Consultant Assistants Meeting 8: 45 am Evaluators’ Meeting 9: 00 am General Session- Room Consultants & Evaluators go to their CRE Room Consultant Assistants go to General Session to monitor students in their event 9: 30 am Room Consultants go to General Session to perform ID & Participant Form check. Escort students to CRE room to begin event
LETTER TO PARENTS ● After Spring Meeting ● Announce their child is eligible to attend the State Leadership Conference ● Provide basic information about the State Leadership Conference

STAR EVENT DESCRIPTIONS ● STAR Events: Login to FCCLA, go to Resources ● Private and secure now ● CA State Events to posted on state Web site by October 15 ● General Rules and Guidelines have been posted. ● Please review both!!!
GENERAL RULES AND GUIDELINES ● ● Review page 9 Letter H: Guidelines for Competitors Items 1− 16 and specifically the following: #3 Any entry may be improved at each level, but the concept or topic may not be changed. #4 The materials for each entry must be original or new each year #8 Any member who placed 1 st in an individual or team event at the state level the previous year shall not be eligible to participate in that same event and division the following year. Exception: Chapter Events and Parliamentary Procedure Exception: Participants who placed first at state in Culinary Display may compete in a different category the next year.
ALTERNATES & SUBSTITUTES REGISTER & USE EM Alternates - (teams only) Registered before Jan 10. Step up day of if needed. Substitute - Can take someone’s place in a CRE, before Jan. 10

CHAPTER SERVICE PROJECT DISPLAY & NATIONAL PROGRAMS IN ACTION ● ● Must present a 2 -3 minute report on their project at Spring Qualifying Meeting. Chapter is listed in Region Program to present their report during the 2 nd General Session ● Bring 2 copies of “Region Spring Meeting Verification Form” Chapter President, Chapter Advisor, Region Coordinator & Region Advisor signs forms. Chapter keeps 1, CRE Chair mails one to State. ● Full presentation at State according to the STAR Events Rules and Guidelines
