Symposium Charity The mission of the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama is to

Symposium Charity The mission of the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama is to serve people in need by securing and storing surplus food and household items and distributing it through 235 local partnering service agencies. We incorporate into our mission our compassion, good stewardship, dedication, urgency, and inclusiveness. The CFBCA was founded in 1982 to combat the growing hunger problem in the Birmingham area. During the ensuing 33 years, the number of counties served by the CFBCA has increased from three to twelve, and the number of Partner Agencies has grown to over 235, including food pantries, homeless shelters, soup kitchens, residential facilities for the disables and homes for abused women and their children. The Food Bank is the main source of food for all of these agencies, allowing each of them to operate efficiently with small budgets that do not require large purchases at retail prices. Additionally, CFBCA provides direct services to those in need through its Mobile Pantry, Hospital Pantry, and Weekenders Child Hunger programs. As Central Alabama’s largest hunger relief organization, CFBCA serves as the primary hunger safety net for an area that includes over a quarter-million people in poverty, of which nearly 90, 000 are children.

Keynote Speaker 1 John Morgan Putting Project Horror Stories to Good Use Bio John

Keynote Speaker 1 John Morgan Putting Project Horror Stories to Good Use Bio John Morgan is the strategy consultant and technical advisor for the Balanced Scorecard Unit of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama’s Corporate Strategy Office. On average, John has grown into a new technology-related position every two to three years since his start with the company in 2005. In that time, he has served as a technical claims trainer, learning technology specialist, and application lifecycle management system administrator, fulfilling project management roles within each position. John is sought out for his expertise in areas ranging from documentation and design to process improvement and change management. Topic While project horror stories are things we’d like to avoid, a fact of project management is that there will be things that happen during our projects that are less than desirable. So when these undesirable things happen, what do we do? How do we respond? What can we salvage and redeem? How is this going to affect our future? Let’s explore together how we can make the most of our project horror stories past, present, and future

Keynote Speaker 2 Wally Johnson A Tale of Three Projects (Lessons Learned the Hard

Keynote Speaker 2 Wally Johnson A Tale of Three Projects (Lessons Learned the Hard Way) Bio A PMP since 1999, Wallace Johnson works for Deloitte Consulting LLP in Washington DC. He completed college with a varsity letter in football from Oklahoma University and later graduated with an Industrial and Systems Engineering degree from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. He started project management early in his career when he and a colleague were challenged to develop a schedule to meet an optimistic salesmen’s delivery date of a new radar system. Wallace Johnson has presented at the 2014 and 2015 PMI North American Congress. . Topic In this short final keynote, you will experience the synthesis of my twenty-six years in project management through multiple positions, companies, and industries. This started way before my 1 st unsuccessful sitting for the PMI certification exam, repeated twice more before finally acquiring my PMP in 1999. My intention was to be successful during the first round. Have you ever prepared for something and it not go as you expected? While many projects have been very successful, not all of my projects through the years have been executed as planned or ended as desired. It has been said, “It’s not what happens to you that determines how far you go in life; it is how you handle what happens to you that determines who you are in this life. ” This presentation will contain some vignettes / lessons learned from my past project experiences, both good and bad. I selected three projects, from my pool of project encounters, for this journey. One project with “leadership gone wild”, another effort contained heart attack levels of stress, and another surviving and succeeding in a “fire -set-ready” culture. Since “hindsight is 20/20”, you’ll get the benefit of my time and you’ll “walk away gracefully and wiser” in less than an hour. You know the saying “no pain; no gain”. My presentation will provide you “gains” based off of my pain, not yours. During this presentation you will laugh, (possibly cry), relate, and definitely gain insight.
