Overview Positive school climate is an essential component of successful and effective schools. It is defined as shared beliefs, values and attitudes that shape interactions between students, teachers and administrators, while setting the parameters of acceptable behavior and norms for the school. K 12 Insight developed this survey instrument that measures the most important dimensions of a school’s environment and allows the district to compare responses across groups. Spring Independent School District asked parents, staff and students in grades 6 -12 for feedback on school climate. Results will be used to inform decisions at the campus and district levels. The survey instrument addressed the following topics: § Academic Preparation § Student Support § School Leadership § Family Involvement § Safety and Behavior © 2016

Details of the Study and Understanding the Results The survey was open from Jan.

Details of the Study and Understanding the Results The survey was open from Jan. 19 – 31. K 12 Insight emailed invitations to parents and staff that included links to the survey. Parents could also access the survey via a public URL. The survey for parents was also available in Spanish. The district’s communications department and individual campuses extensively promoted the surveys through emails to parents and staff, fliers sent home to parents, social media and posters displayed on campuses. Email reminders were sent on Jan. 25 and 29 to those who had not yet taken the survey. This report summarizes survey results for elementary schools only, and compares them across the two participant groups. Results do not reflect random sampling; therefore, they should not be generalized to all elementary school parents and staff in Spring ISD. Rather, results reflect only the perceptions and opinions of participating respondents. Findings for each item in the report exclude participants who did not answer. Percentages may not add to 100 percent due to rounding. Data labels less than 5 percent are not shown in bar charts. © 2016
