UIL PRACTICE GUIDELINES 1 practice a day § No more than 3 hours for practice 2 practices a day § No more than 5 hours within that day § Activities that count: on field practice, skill instruction, mandatory conditioning, water breaks, and rest breaks § Activities that don’t count: meetings, film, weight training*, treatment, voluntary conditioning* § *: Activities may not be done during two hour break § A single practice should not be longer than three hours § A minimum of a 2 hour break is required between the end of the 1 st practice and the start of the 2 nd practice
4 DAY ACCLIMATIZATION First 4 days of practice (Aug 10 – Aug 13) NO Contact Only helmets are worn If more than one practice is conducted the second practice will be a walkthrough without contact or conditioning § Monday Aug 10 th through Wednesday Aug 12 th are one practice days § Thursday Aug 13 th will have a walkthrough for Varsity/JV Allows athletes’ bodies to adjust to the heat without over exposure
NUTRITION SUGGESTIONS FOR TWO A DAYS Hydrate – Water All Day – 1 Gallon after dinner Breakfast- fruit/grain- No heavy breakfast Snack during breaks- Fruit/Energy Bar/Gatorade/Peanut Butter Sandwich Healthy Lunch and Dinner- Lots of Vegetables/Protein *NO ENERGY DRINKS To replenish electrolytes and stay hydrated combine 1 part Gatorade with 10 parts water
ATHLETIC PERIODS FRESHMEN 8 th Period – Bell Rings @ 3: 05 Dressed and on the Field @ 3: 20 Monday-Wednesday Practice – 3: 20 -4: 40 pm Parent Pick Up– 5: 00 Thursday-Game Day Friday- 3: 05 -3: 55 (Weight Day): Parent Pick up-4: 05 (All tutoring and special help needs to be taken care of before school or at Lunch)
PHYSICALS AND PAPER WORK Every Athlete must have a physical on file and completed UIL paper work before they can practice on Monday August 8 th New students to the district will need to be added to the Rank One software- email Michelle Thomison for this.
