No one is transformed by a purely cognitive approach, even if the approach is biblical. Healing of the self requires a spiritualemotional attachment to a nurturing parenting figure…Identity formation…[change] comes about as the…person learns to attach to Christ subsequent to conversion. this doesn’t happen solely through the accumulation of biblical facts or by religiously following the propositions and instructions of Scripture. This happens by interpersonal interaction with Christ, similar to the interaction between parent and child. Russ Willingham (1999)

Judgment or mercy for my parent? What do we want for ourselves from the Lord? We are saved by grace through faith in Christ (Eph. 2: 8 -9). Let us extend that grace toward the parent we are judging in the area that we also struggle in and see what happens.

Prayer Father, I judged my parent in this area [confess the area]. Even though mom/dad was wrong in [name the area], I cancel my judgment against my parent for this and place all judgment in your hands. I choose to bless my parent instead of judge him/her over this matter. Thank You for Your grace which breaks the power of the struggle I’ve had in this area myself, in Jesus name, amen.
