In prior releases, it was required that the Microsoft Dynamics GP system database was named “DYNAMICS”. The result of this requirement was that only a single data instance (system and company databases) could be deployed on a SQL Server. If an additional GP data instance was required, such as for development or a new customer in a hosted environment, a new SQL Server instance would need to be needed. In Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013, the requirement for the system database to be named “DYNAMICS” will be removed. In a new deployment, the implementer will have the option of providing any SQL compliant database name, with a maximum of 10 characters. The implementer may choose to deploy multiple system databases with different names to a single SQL Server. In addition to naming the system database, this feature will also allow for the naming of the Fabrikam sample company database to something other than TWO so that each system database can have its own sample database.
