MHSAA 2012 Golf Manager Meeting u Results/Qualifiers – – – To Next Level MHSAA will send an Excel scoring file to each manager for recording scores Instructions will clearly indicate how to enter names, coaches, scores, etc. Formulas in file will create a results file to send to the next level (Dist. to Reg. ) and MHSAA via e-mail Include first & last names, grade and name of school coach, always list players by rank – not score Person using should have Excel experience!!

Tournament manager determines members of rules committee, 3 -6 persons recommended Host manager, golf pro, participating coaches All rulings based on USGA rules If coach is involved in rules infraction, he/she will be excused from committee Involve player’s coach in discussions

MHSAA 2012 Golf Manager Meeting u Weather – – Policies/Procedures Lighting/Thunder has mandatory 30 minute suspension If play is suspended, wait as long as possible to resume on same day from point of suspension If play cannot continue or re-start, next day is first option, next available day is second option Call MHSAA for consultation

MHSAA 2012 Golf Manager Meeting u Coaching – – – Allowed at all tournament levels Observers no longer required Direct coaching only between green and tee Only one coach may have privilege Prepare badge/lanyard identifying coaches Coaches may use carts at own expense

MHSAA 2012 Golf Manager Meeting u Player – – Scoring Responsibilities Statement All players in the MHSAA Tournament are responsible for the accuracy of their own score and that of the player for which they are scoring Players who record false scores for themselves or knowingly allow other members of their group to record false scores or violate USGA rules are subject to penalty and/or disqualification.

MHSAA 2012 Golf Manager Meeting u Group Scoring Procedures – – All players in a group are required to keep a hole by hole score for another member of the group and themselves. At the end of each hole, players shall announce their score to their marker for recording on the scorecard. Each players score shall be agreed to by their marker. At the end of the round, all players shall bring individual scorecards to the scoring area to confirm scores and sign scorecards with an adult meet official. Players should not give scorecard to the player they are keeping score for when bringing cards to the scoring area. All players in the group shall remain in the scoring area until scores are reviewed, confirmed and posted.

MHSAA 2012 Golf Manager Meeting u Coaching – – Duties & Privileges All players are required to have school designated coaching supervision at all levels of the MHSAA Golf Tournament. Coaches are required to facilitate check-in of their team/individuals, distribute scorecards to team/individuals, make substitutions, attend the coaches meeting and be on-site throughout the round to communicate with tournament management and/or rules officials when necessary.

MHSAA 2012 Golf Manager Meeting u On-Course – Direct Coaching The designated school coach may exercise “direct” coaching privileges on the course only during the time from green to tee, after all players have putted out and before the first player is ready to play on the next tee. Such coaching and conversation between green and tee may include advice and shall not delay pace of play.

MHSAA 2012 Golf Manager Meeting u Coaching – – Restrictions/Limits Outside the allowed “direct” coaching period the designated school coach may: Monitor sportsmanship, assist in determining and/or report possible rules violations to tournament rules officials and players, assist in finding balls, remind players of rules options, keep galleries at appropriate distances, report player/spectator conduct violations to tournament officials, assist players during weather delays in seeking/finding shelter.

MHSAA 2012 Golf Manager Meeting u Outside the “direct” coaching period the designated school coach may not: – Give advice to players in violation of Rule 8 -1 such as club selection, method of making a stroke, influence determination of play, make rulings or assess penalties on USGA Rules, communicate other team members’ performance, suggest club selection, give physical assistance, carry clubs, rake bunkers, tend flagsticks, approach players in order to challenge scores or provide use of their cart to players (except in emergencies, or to assist with pace of play as determined by the manager), use cell phones or electronic devices to communicate with players in any way
