What is an Angle? v An angle is the figure formed by two rays sharing a common endpoint. The common endpoint is called as Vertex. v The word angle comes from the Latin word angulus, meaning "a corner". v

Elements of an Angle Above figure shows an angle. v Rays BA and BC having common endpoint B. v The rays BA and BC are called as arms of an angle. v

Name of an Angle can be written by using three capital letters, as angle ABC or CBA. v The letter naming the vertex of an angle is always written in the middle. It can be read as ‘angle ABC’ or ‘angle CBA’. v Name of an angle also can be written by using a single letter, as angle B. v The sign to denote an angle is ‘<’. v

In above figure, there are three rays OA, OB and OC. v ‘O’ is the common endpoint. v There are three angles namely, ‘angle AOB’, ‘angle BOC’ and ‘angle AOC’. v
