• Surrealism is an invented word "sur" means beyond or farther than, so "surreal" means to go beyond real. • Surrealism tried to meld the conscious and the unconscious, the world of dreams and fantasy along with reality so that the line between these ideas was completely blurred. • wanted to shock their viewers with the unexpected and make people think in new ways.

His bright, sharpfocused acrylics make outside in, up down, and near far. Walls and doors exchange places with trees and sky. Cities float and blow away as they age. Sea and sand change roles, household objects become towns, buildings become land, land becomes animals, animals become mountains and islands. Hidden worlds wait around every corner and magic seeps through every door.

Project Guidelines • • Create a surrealist fantasy city Bring in one object to sketch and add to your city Have references for your city this could be: real estate pictures from the newspaper, buildings in magazines, architect books, or construction photos (I will be providing some of these but feel free to bring things in!) Can be indoor outdoor
Project Guidelines • • • Sketch out 4 ideas on how to create your project Create a surrealist fantasy city using twopoint perspective! (use methods like scale, levitation, juxtaposition, dislocation, transparency, transformation) Sketch out in pencil first. Add forms and details to create your city. Paint with watercolor to finish your city.
