2 Peter 1: 3 -11 POWER EVERY THING YOU NEED PROMISES PURPOSE

YOU HAVE GOD’S POWER Unlimited Power – “By his divine power, God has given us everything we need to live a godly life. ” (v 3 a) Divine power = “incomparably great power” (Eph 1: 19) = hyper, mega, dynamite power. Divine power = we are never powerless. “Those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar like eagles. They will run & not grow weary. They will walk and not faint. ” (Isaiah 40: 31)

Unlocked power – “We have received this by coming to know Him. . ” (vs 3 b) Knowing = deep, genuine and personal. An intimate connection with Jesus. “I have been with you all this time Philip, yet you still don’t know who I am. ” (Jn 14: 9) “You have informational knowledge of me, but you don’t have personal knowledge of me. ” = You are not plugged into my power.

Informational knowledge – listen to others, study & get info but it doesn’t change you. Personal knowledge (intimate relationship) = Jesus becomes central person in your life, you surrender yourself, lose independence. An intimate, personal relationship with Jesus = changes in how you think + feel + behave. Jeremiah 9: 23 -24 = we boast only in Him. John 14: 6 = He is our life, our truth & way. God’s power radiates from Jesus & His Word.

ROBERT WILLIAMS YOU HAVE GOD’S PROMISES “He has given us great & precious promises. . ” (vs 4 a) God’s power is communicated through His promises in His Word – they sustain our faith.

His promises are ‘great & precious’ because they are numerous, guaranteed & available. “For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. ” (2 Cor 1: 20) Loved without limits. Sins are forgiven – past, present & future. Become children of God. Blessing of the Holy Spirit. Comfort in suffering & hardship. Provision of all your needs. Hope of heaven when we die. Reign with Jesus in His kingdom.

YOU HAVE GOD’S PURPOSE – “. . that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption. . ” (vs 4 b) Hyper, mega, dynamite power + great and precious promises = to accomplish God’s purpose for your life. Purpose = to be more like Jesus (yes) and less like the world (no). “To be conformed to the image of his Son. . ” (Rom 8: 29)

DOWNLOADING ALL WE NEED Analyse – where do you struggle? What frustrates you? Sin? Personalise – find the promises that deal with your struggle. (Book = Isaiah, chapter = Psalm 37) Read deeply, claim, journal & memorise. Verbalise – speak the promises out loud. Don’t just tell God about your problems, tell your problems about God.

Anxious, fearful, isolated, weak, ill-equipped? God has equipped you (batteries always included) with everything you need to grow in grace & thrive, not just survive. “The Sovereign Lord is my strength! He makes me as surefooted as a deer, able to tread upon the heights. ” (Habakkuk 3: 19) You get His POWER through His PROMISES = to equip you for His PURPOSE = TO BE MORE LIKE HIM, LESS LIKE THE WORLD.
