It is growing phenomenally because: v Believed in “restoring” the spiritual gifts of the first century Ø The movement emphasizes “missionary” work. From church (1 Cor 12: 4 -11) in the very beginning it saw itself as an evangelistic modern church. organization with a purpose to reach the world. Ø It was the first religious movement that openly embraced people from all walks of life and races. And these worshiped together without prejudice! Ø It is very subjective—trusting in one’s feelings and emotions. This is very attractive! It offers “hope” to the “hopeless. ” Ø But it is also ripe for charlatans and hucksters, and there have been many throughout the years. v David Hackett (Religion and American Culture: A Reader) said: the movement was “a yearning to return to a time before time, to a space outside of space, to a mythical realm that Alexander Campbell [founder of the Disciples of Christ] called the ‘ancient order of things. ’ This was not a nostalgic longing for frontier revivalism, but a desire to return to first century Christianity. ”

All things were created through Him and for Him. If both are the same person, then Jesus is the only member of the Godhead.
