2. 3 Measuring an Inaccessible Height
2. 3 Measuring an Inaccessible Height INACCESSIBLE HEIGTH = a height which you can not measure directly • you can measure such height using CLINOMETER What is Clinometer?
What is Clinometer?
What is Clinometer? • It is an instrument that helps us measure inaccessible heights!
How Does It Work?
YOUR PROJECT Each of you will construct a clinometer and then measure various things around the school
YOUR PROJECT Your assignment and quiz will be based on being able to use clinometer!
What Do You Need? 1. A copy of a 180° protractor 2. Scissors 3. Hodometer or measuring tape 4. A piece of cardboard 5. A drinking straw 6. Glue or adhesive tape 7. A needle and thread 8. A small metal washer or weight
How Do You Make It? Ø Glue or tape the paper protractor to the cardboard. Ø Carefully cut it out Ø Use the needle to pull the thread through the cardboard at the centre of the protractor Ø Secure thread to the back of the cardboard with tape. Ø Attach the weight to the other end of the thread Ø Tape the drinking straw along the baseline of the protractor for use as a sighting tube
How Do You Use It? Ø Read the instructions on the pages 84 AND 85 Ø Look at my demonstrations
