Rinsing Some stains can be removed by rinsing immediately in cold water
Soaking • Stains can be dissolved or loosened by soaking in cold water for 30 minutes • Works well for water based stains such as fruit juice and soft drinks • Can add laundry detergent or and enzyme presoak powder to the water (for protein-based stains such as chocolate, blood, grass)
Pretreating • Done before laundering in order to give heavy dirt and stains extra attention • Apply liquid laundry detergent or a paste made of water and powder detergent • Prewash soil-and-stain remover is effective for greasy or oily stains
Bleaching • Some stains may come out when bleach is added to water for presoaking or laundering. Always follow the manufacturers directions! • Chlorine – should not be used on wool, silk, leather, spandex. • Nonchlorine – can be used on all fabrics and colors
Fabric Softener • Fabrics feel softer, have less static electricity and are fragrant with the use of fabric softeners. • Liquid softeners are added to the water during the final rinse
Disinfectant Removes and controls bacteria
Starch • Gives the fabric body and makes ironing easier. Stiffens fabrics. • Spray starch can be applied before ironing • Dry and liquid starches should be mixed with water before using
