1984 AND BRAVE NEW WORLD JIGSAW • You will be put into groups • Each group will be teaching fictional elements of the novels with Power. Point technology. • Here are the groupings: • Character • POV and Setting • Plot and Conflict • Symbolism • Tone and Diction • Theme • Style (Form = Function)
DATES • 2 Weeks to read each novel (outside of class) • I will schedule the lab for Sep 11 • Presentations will begin Sep 18
CRITERIA FOR GRADING— RUBRIC • Your teaching should be an analysis of the particular elements. As always you should explain for what purpose the author utilized your element. • You should have questions for your students. We will discuss these. • You should provide visuals that do not detract from your presentation. See images . • One would possibly work. Which one? • Your presentation, a mini-lesson, should be at least 15 minutes but not exceed 20. • It is worth 60 points in the test/paper/project section. • Questions?
KEYS FOR A DECENT POWERPOINT PRESENTATION • • • Key #1—No cheesy clipart! PARC is the easiest way for decency. Proximity — Group like things together Alignment — Both visible and invisible Repetition — Repeat design aspects Contrast — Make important points salient If you do not use PARC, you get CRAP! Minimum 18 pt. font; use sans serif font Use animation to focus your students.
