The World Cup 1966 Between 11 th and 30 th July 1966, England hosted the FIFA World Cup. 70 nations took part in the qualifying tournaments which was then narrowed down to 16 countries.
The Qualifying Countries England, Uruguay, Mexico, France Germany FR, Argentina, Spain , Switzerland Portugal, Hungary, Brazil, Bulgaria Soviet Union, Korea, Italy, Chile All matches were played at Wembley Stadium.

The Final After winning 4 – 2, with the last 2 goals being scored in extra time, England received the recovered Jules Rimet trophy from Elizabeth II and were crowned World Cup winners for the first time.
