History of Television After WWII, families had accumulated savings and were eager to purchase homes, cars, and other luxuries denied to them during the war. Televisions were at the top of the “must have” lists! The early 50’s were dominated by black and white tv; color tv and remote controls were launched in the mid 1950’s. However, high prices and lack of broadcast material slowed the acceptance of color tv. It was not until the late 1960’s that color sets started selling in large numbers.

The Mickey Mouse Club 1955 -1959 a variety show for children regular features such as a newsreel, a cartoon, as well as music, talent and comedy segments. One unique feature of the show was the Mouseketeer Roll Call, in which many (but not all) of that day's line-up of regular performers would introduce themselves by name to the television audience.
