MEN'S FASHION During the war, men usually wore plain, functional suits in solid. They also wore plain colors like navy or black, with plain white shirts. The working man could go to the office in the elegant suits usually associated with the 1940 s emerged, after the war ended.
WOMEN'S FASHION Clothes • • Hair • swept up and pinned in elaborate styles • tied back, wavy, or rolled their everyday dress was usually plain and comfortable bobby socks, pleated skirts, sweaters, and round collars You often see stuff like they wore in vintage or costume stores. Though the stuff that they wore was very stylish for their time… A lot of people do their hair like this for costumes. It's one of the very popular quick and simple ideas. We have now updated fashion. So you don’t usually see people wearing this stuff unless it’s Halloween.

Not only did they give their sons, husbands, fathers, and brothers to the war effort, they gave their time, energy, and some even gave their lives. The National WWII Museum recognizes the contribution that women played in the success of the Allied victory in World War II and explores that contribution in depth in it's Home Front gallery. Nearly 350, 000 American women served in uniform, both at home and aboard, volunteering for the newly formed Women's Army Auxiliary Corps (WAACs, later renamed the Women's Army Corps), the Navy Women's Reserve (WAVES), the Marine Corps Women's Reserve, the Coast Guard Women's Reserve (SPARS), the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASPS), the Army Nurses Corps, and the Navy Nurse Corps.
What Did it Cost? During the 1940 s the hourly wage would be between 30 -40 cents/hr. You could even see a movie for only 12 and 25 cents! The family car, usually a 1941 Pontiac, was only $800. Hamburgers and Milkshakes didn't even cost that much. They only cost as much as 10 -15 cents.
