14 million people live below the poverty line in the UK Every day, people in the UK go hungry for reasons ranging from redundancy, benefit delay, or receiving an unexpected bill on a low income. Foodbanks provide emergency food to people in poverty
The Trussell Trust A charity founded on Christian principles that works with people of all faiths and none and is inspired by Jesus’words: “For I was hungry and you fed me; I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink; I was a stranger and you invited me in; I was naked and you clothed me; I was sick and you took care of me; I was in prison and you visited me” (Matthew 25: 35 & 36)

About Farnham Foodbank • Founded in 2010 • Supported by Farnham Christian Community Trust, a local framework of inter-church community projects • Warehouse and Office in Upper Hale • Distribution outlets at Church House (Vineyard Centre) and St Mark’s Church, Upper Hale • Foodbank opens 11 am-1 pm, three times weekly

How Farnham Foodbank works STEP 1: Non perishable food is donated by the public… • • • Supermarket Collections Churches Schools Businesses Harvest, Christmas, Easter STEP 2: Volunteers sort and store the food All food is weighed in & sorted by date ready for distribution
STEP 3: Care professionals give foodbank vouchers to people in crisis • • • Health visitors Social workers Church pastoral workers Doctors surgeries Schools Carers and Care Centres STEP 4: Clients exchange their voucher for 3 days’ supply of food at the foodbank
STEP 5: Foodbanks take time to listen and signpost clients to further support Through an informal chat over a warm drink volunteers can: Offer a listening ear Assess further needs the client may have Signpost to support services in the borough Offer to pray with the client
