11. 1. 21 L. O – To plot shapes on a grid, write coordinates and translate and reflect shapes. Today’s lesson is an assessment of all you have done last week. So there is no video but I will go through the main points before you have a go at answering the questions.

Look at the grid below Remember the vertical axis is the y axis and the horizontal axis is the x axis. When we read and plot co-ordinates we move along the corridor x axis and up the stairs y axis. For example (4, 8) When you plot shapes onto a grid you need to know the coordinates of each vertex of the shape. A vertex is a corner. When we talk about more than one vertex we call them vertices.

Draw the grid into your book. Write the coordinates for the following shapes A-(

Translating and reflecting shapes When we translate shapes we move them. We translate them

Translating and reflecting shapes When we translate shapes we move them. We translate them up and down. Look at your grid. Translate shape A 7 up and 3 right. This means that we move each vertex 7 squares up and 3 squares to the right. Plot the translated shape and write the coordinates. When we reflect shapes the line that they are reflected in acts as a mirror line. Therefore the shape is the same shape and size but appear as if they are mirror reflections, with the right and left reversed. Reflect shape B on the x axis Plot the shape and write the coordinates of the reflected shape.
