106 Bell Ringer Geometry QUIZ Bell Ringer In
10/6 Bell Ringer - Geometry QUIZ Bell Ringer In order to receive 5 pts you MUST FOLLOW these steps: Step 1: Get supplies from front of room. Step 2: Have your “Ordered Pairs” Homework out on your desk. Step 3: Answer this question: Given points (6, 3), ( -3, 2) and (1, 9), which quadrants are empty? Draw a picture to show you know. Homework: Reflections in Coordinate Plane WS
10/6 News and Notes • Last day for tests to be made up, otherwise ZERO in Gradebook for Progress Reports: • 1 st : Nijee, Tracia, James • 8 th: Daniel Mej, Sandy
10/6 Agenda • I CAN reflect an object over either axis and the line y = x. 1. Bell Ringer Quiz 2. Intro to New Material 1. Paddy Paper reflection over x-axis 2. Reflect over y-axis w/o Paddy Paper 3. Reflect over y = x WITH Paddy Paper 3. Guided Practice – Partners reflecting 4. Independent Practice
Intro to New Material • Reflection over x-axis • Agile Mind Topic 4 Exploring Reflections and Rotations, pp 2 -4
Over the y-axis • Q 1: What are the coordinates of ∆P’A’T’? – (-3, 2) (-5, 3) and (-4, 6) • Q 2: What changes when you reflect an object over the y-axis? – The x values change because we’re moving left-right • Q 3: Compare the distance from P to the line of symmetry with the distance from P’ to the line of symmetry. What do you notice? – They’re the same distance from the y-axis • Q 4: Ordered Pair Rule. When you reflect an object over the y-axis (x, y) becomes (-x, y).
Over the x-axis • Q 5: What changes when you reflect an object over the x-axis? –The y values change because we’re moving up-down • Q 4: Ordered Pair Rule. When you reflect an object over the xaxis (x, y) becomes (x, -y).
Over y = x • Q 1: What are the coordinates of ∆C’O’T’? –(5, 2) (6, 4) and (9, 3) • Q 4: Ordered Pair Rule. When you reflect an object over the yaxis (x, y) becomes (y, x).
Guided Practice • Step 1: Choose who will be Partner 1 and who will be Partner 2 • Step 2: Follow instructions to reflect your preimage • Step 3: Share your points with each other • Step 4: Raise your hand. Did you earn the next step?
Independent Practice • You now have the rest of class to work on your homework. Enjoy.
