The Purpose of This Policy If you work in a kitchen or pantry for just a few minutes each day or even occasionally walk through these areas, you need to be aware of the special hazards that are in food preparation areas. Safe Practices in Kitchens and Pantries Whether working in a pantry or kitchen or just passing through these work areas, follow these rules for your safety and for the safety of other team members: 1. Do not enter kitchens and pantries unless your work requires that you do so. 2. Do not interrupt or distract kitchen and pantry workers from their duties. 3. Immediately report gas odors to a supervisor or the manager-on-duty. 4. Keep storage areas secured. 5. Do not run. Do not participate in or allow horseplay. Immediately report safety hazards to the kitchen supervisor. 8. Immediately clean up spills. 9. Keep unnecessary noise to a minimum. Do not allow any excess noise that may distract from work or interfere with safety communication. Report excess noise, such as from motors. Do not play personal radios. Do not unnecessarily shout or yell. 10. Follow the Storage Safety Rules for All Team Members. If you regularly work in kitchen or pantry areas, also follow the Safety Rules for Kitchen Workers.
