Case Study - Math Mrs. Valdez was moved from 7 th grade Pre-Algebra to 10 th grade Geometry due to her effectiveness and strong focus on geometric concepts. One of the TEKS that she is now responsible for is the following: § 111. 34. Geometry (One Credit). (G. 2) Geometric structure. The student analyzes geometric relationships in order to make and verify conjectures. (B) make conjectures about angles, lines, polygons, circles, and three-dimensional figures and determine the validity of the conjectures, choosing from a variety of approaches such as coordinate, transformational, or axiomatic. Coming from a campus with limited to no technology equipment in the classroom to a campus that provides teachers with multiple tools to perform their duties and expects their teachers to create lessons utilizing them has been overwhelming for her. Since she was moved after the two weeks of professional development she does not currently posses the knowledge to implement the current technology into her lessons. Her class consist of 25 students two students are LEP(level 2) and are English immersion only.
Classroom Technology Includes Hardware: a. 25 student workstation lab (PC’s) • connection to Internet with a low level of website blocking • Black and white and color printer • digital projector • Whiteboard and clicker system • scanner Software: a) Word Processing b) Presentation c) Database d) Spreadsheet e) Web 2. 0 Technologies
Task 1 Identify three technologies from the available technology list that would be appropriate for enhancing this lesson while addressing the diverse needs of all students. Explain why the technologies you identified are appropriate. Grade Score: 3 The grade is based on the vague use of technology. There is a partial justification for the use of the 25 student workstations.
Task 2 Describe how you would support and guide Mrs. Valdez in planning the lesson then evaluating student performance. Explain how your support and guidance would assist Mrs. Valdez in achieving the goals of the lesson for all 25 students in the class. Grade Score: 1 Did not address the diversity of students in the classroom. Stated the usage of hardware instead of the design of the lesson using the hardware.
Task 3 Describe how you would support and guide Mrs. Valdez in implementing the integration of technology into the lesson. Grade Score: 4 The technology implentation is well described with its appropriate support and guidance.
Task 4 Describe how you would support and guide Mrs. Valdez in evaluating the applications of technology in order to meet the goals of the lesson. Grade Score: 4 Good use of evaluation questions and time spent with teacher prior to and after lesson is completed.
Task 5 Describe how a technology you identified might be used to enhance a lesson of your choosing in Math and Science. Grade Score: 4 The response explains the use of technology in a different subject area and the approriate adaptation of the technology for the use in the specified alternate learning situation.
