10 HOME EC. Creating a mood board
Mood board • Like a collage that is a collection of images and materials displayed on a board • Expresses a ‘mood’ or ‘theme’ • Forms the basis of your inspiration to begin designing.
Creating your mood board • Collect images – either from magazines or the internet • Images should represent your chosen sport and the team spirit theme • Refer to your mind map to help select relevant images • The mood board should be visually appealing and create interest Tips: • Play with the layout before sticking down/finalising • Don’t just have images of sports outfits – stick to a few key images of clothing representing sport and build theme with other images that relate to theme e. g. colours, materials, buildings, places, people, icons
Consider… • Proportion – the pictures shouldn’t all be the same size – varying proportion creates more interest. • Balance – balance a main image with smaller images, don’t just put a main image in the centre • Less is more – avoid overcrowding the mood board with too many images. • Colour palette – a colour palette should be defined through the selected images. • Texture – consider using texture through incorporating fabrics/materials (if creating a hard copy) • A title – a good idea is to give your mood board a catchy title – this helps to create the ‘mood’. Consider your choice of typography – make sure it fits your theme. • Intellectual property – keep a record of image sources
