WHAT IS THE ARMY CADET FORCE? One of the UK’s oldest and largest youth volunteer organisations Over 41, 000 cadets aged 12 -18 1, 700 local groups “detachments” 55 county groups 160 years of history and achievement

OUR PURPOSE Although many of our activities have a military theme and we are funded by Army sponsorship, we are here primarily to: 1. Give young people a broad range of challenging adventurous, sporting and educational activities 2. Help inspire them to achieve success in life and develop the qualities of a good citizen

OUR BATTALION 1 st Battalion The Highlanders Twenty-nine detachments across the Highlands & Islands Covering an area equivalent to the size of Belgium 450 cadets from various backgrounds Looked after by over 90 dedicated Adult Instructors and Officers

MYTHS AND FACTS The Army model provides structure Generous sponsorship comes from the same source as the Army’s fund (MOD) BUT WE ARE NOT PART OF THE ARMY Being part of the ACF doesn’t mean having to join the Army There is no pressure on cadets to show further interest Cadets’ interest in a career in the Army Forces is encouraged if this is part of their own plan
