INTRODUCTION Ø Regional Rural Bank Act 1976 sowed the seeds of Assam Gramin Vikash Bank. Ø RRB Act 1976 brought five regional rural banks into existence in Assam. Ø On 12 th January, 2006 AGVB was established by the amalgamation of four out of five regional rural banks. 3
Banks amalgamated were – ØPragjyotish Gaonlia Bank (Estd. 06 -07 - 1976), ØLakhimi Gaonlia Bank (Estd. 29 -07 -1980), ØCachar Gramin Bank (Estd. 31 -03 -1981) ØSubansiri Gaonlia Bank (Estd. 30 -03 -1982). 4
OBJECTIVES Ø Better customer service from better infrastructure, branch computerization, pool of experienced work force, unified publicity and marketing efforts. Ø Reaping economies of scale with larger area of operation, enhanced credit exposure limits. Ø Opportunities for diverse banking activities, leading to higher business growth. 5
