8 Sanitation is a way of life, it is the quality of living that is expressed in clean home, farm, business and industry, and a clean neibourhood and a clean community. Being a way of life it must come from within the people, it is nourished by knowledge and grows as an obligation and as an ideal in human relations
9 Environmental Sanitation S The control of all factors in the environment which exercise or may exercise a deleterious effect on his physical, mental and social well being. S In other words, it is the process of taming the environment so that it no longer constitutes a hazard to man.
10 Components of Environmental Sanitation S S S S Liquid waste management services (excreta, sewage, waste water etc. ) Solid waste management services (domestic, commercial, industrial, other hazardous waste) Public cleansing - cleaning of streets, open spaces, markets, beaches, drains etc. Public Health Education Landfill operations and management Monitoring the preparation, handling and sale of food Post mortem inspection of slaughtered animals (carcasses)

It also refers to theory and practice of assessing, correcting, controlling and preventing those factors in the environment that can potentially affect adversely health of present and future generations"

17 Objective of Environmental Health S The Environmental Health Officers and Assistants are there to promote and protect the health of the public from factors in the environment that are likely to be offensive or injurious to their health. S This is achieved by provision of the basic requirements for a healthy environment in collaboration with other stakeholders. S These basic requirements for a healthy environment include: Hygienic Environment Clean air, Safe and sufficient water, Adequate and safe food, Safe and peaceful settlements and A stable environment
