9 NOW AND TOMORROW EXCELLENCE IN EVERYTHING WE DO Social Insurance Numbers • Service Canada administers the Social Insurance Number (SIN) program • In order to get a Social Insurance Number your community members will need to obtain a birth certificate • The benefits of obtaining a SIN: – Employment – Access to benefits such as OAS – Access to training programs • If you are interested in having a SIN clinic in your area please let us know

10 NOW AND TOMORROW EXCELLENCE IN EVERYTHING WE DO Collaboration • Service Canada is always looking for ways to partner with other levels of government to open the door to more services • We currently are working with our partners to help administer the following: – Birth Certificates/Delayed Birth Registration – Obtaining a G 1 driver’s permit

11 NOW AND TOMORROW EXCELLENCE IN EVERYTHING WE DO Aboriginal Birth Registration Initiative (ABRI) • ABRI started in 2009, and is administered by Service Ontario. • ABRI has been incorporated into Service Canada’s outreach services in Indigenous communities to support current/past birth registrations • We are committed to working with people in your communities to help them in registering their births • If there are members in your communities who are interested in registering their births please let us know, we are willing to work with them to obtain birth certificates

12 NOW AND TOMORROW EXCELLENCE IN EVERYTHING WE DO Ministry of Transportation • The Ministry of Transportation (MTO)/ Drive. Test has delivered G 1 testing services in several remote communities and is looking at expanding • Service Canada supports this MTO/ Drive. Test venture by working with your community to ensure you have documentation to apply for your license • If any of your communities could benefit from this initiative please let us know

13 NOW AND TOMORROW EXCELLENCE IN EVERYTHING WE DO ASETS • The Aboriginal Skills and Employment Training Strategy was created to increase skilled labour opportunities for Indigenous communities • There are currently 18 ASETS that serve Indigenous communities via 80 points of service in Ontario • If you require further information about the ASETS in your communities please let us know.

14 NOW AND TOMORROW EXCELLENCE IN EVERYTHING WE DO Service Canada Community Programs • New Horizons – A federally funded program that allows organizations that want to help seniors make a difference in the lives of others and in their communities. • Canada Summer Jobs – provides funding to help employers create summer job opportunities for students. It is designed to focus on local priorities, while helping both students and their communities.
