“You have to give up everything. ”

And as he was setting out on his journey, a man ran up and knelt before him and asked him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life? ” Mark 10: 17 “You have to give up everything. ”

And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone. You know the commandments: ‘Do not murder, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor your father and mother. ’” Mark 10: 18, 19 “You have to give up everything. ”

And he said to him, “Teacher, all these I have kept from my youth. ” Mark 10: 20 “You have to give up everything. ”

And Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, “You lack one thing: go, sell all that you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me. ” Mark 10: 21 “You have to give up everything. ”

Disheartened by the saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions. Mark 10: 22 “You have to give up everything. ”

Why does Jesus give this command? “You have to give up everything. ”

We expect grace from Jesus…not another requirement. “You have to give up everything. ”

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. Ephesians 2: 8, 9 “You have to give up everything. ”

And Jesus, looking at him, loved him…. . Mark 10: 21 “You have to give up everything. ”

Love comes before the command. “You have to give up everything. ”

There is nothing you can do to make God love you more. “You have to give up everything. ”

Jesus does not call us to ”give up everything. ” “You have to give up everything. ”

Jesus calls us to give up anything that defines our identity apart from Him. “You have to give up everything. ”

What gives your identity? “You have to give up everything. ”

What are the first three things you usually tell people about yourself? “You have to give up everything. ”

Identity is often defined by what we do, how we live, what we have, and who we love. “You have to give up everything. ”

Identity should be defined by whose we are. “You have to give up everything. ”

Are we “children of God”? “You have to give up everything. ”

And they were bringing children to him that he might touch them, and the disciples rebuked them. Mark 10: 13 “You have to give up everything. ”

But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, “Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it. ” Mark 10: 14, 15 “You have to give up everything. ”

And he took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands on them. Mark 10: 16 “You have to give up everything. ”

And Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How difficult it will be for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!” And the disciples were amazed at his words. Mark 10: 23, 24 “You have to give up everything. ”

But Jesus said to them again, “Children, how difficult it is to enter the kingdom of God! It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God. ” Mark 10: 24, 25 “You have to give up everything. ”

And they were exceedingly astonished, and said to him, “Then who can be saved? ” Jesus looked at them and said, “With man it is impossible, but not with God. For all things are possible with God. ” Mark 10: 26, 27 “You have to give up everything. ”

Peter began to say to him, “See, we have left everything and followed you. ” Mark 10: 28 “You have to give up everything. ”

Jesus said, “Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands, for my sake and for the gospel, who will not receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and in the age to come eternal life. Mark 10: 29, 30 “You have to give up everything. ”

But many who are first will be last, and the last first. ” Mark 10: 31 “You have to give up everything. ”

Are we willing to allow Jesus to shape our identity and give up ”everything” that would prevent him from doing so? “You have to give up everything. ”

“Go, sell your selfrighteousness. ” “You have to give up everything. ”

“Go, sell your popularity. ” “You have to give up everything. ”

“Go, sell your efforts to make a comfortable future for yourself. ” “You have to give up everything. ”

“Go, sell that relationship that is pulling you away. ” “You have to give up everything. ”

“Go, sell…………” “You have to give up everything. ”
