In October 2017, the District replaced 135 AED units at the schools On September 24, 2019, the District passed a Policy requiring all High School and Middle School Student-Athletes to have an ECG Each Year, All Coaches and Student-Athletes must view the online courses and/or videos for the following FHSAA Policies: Policy 40: Concussion Policy 41: Exertional Heat Illness Policy 42: Sudden Cardiac Arrest Each Year, all Student-Athletes must have a Sports Physical (EL-2) and complete the BPS- ECG Clearance Form

8 FHSAA Increase in Officials Fees, Effective 2020 -21 FHSAA sets the maximum fees which Officials Associations can charge BPS utilizes MCOA (Mid-Coast Officials Association) for Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Soccer, Wrestling, Baseball, Softball, Girls Lacrosse BPS utilizes FLOA (Florida Lacrosse Officials Association) for Boys Lacrosse The official’s association bill the schools for officials, travel fees, and yearly administration fees per sport. Schools pay these fees from monies collected at the gate as well as: District Athletic Assistance Fundraising Pay to Participate fee if the sport has one
9 FHSAA Increase in Officials Fees, Effective 2020 -21 Review of current maximum fees due to feedback from Officials Associations The FHSAA took a Survey of 8 Southeastern States The FHSAA then Arrived at an Average Fee per Official, per Sport, then added $5, PLUS another $10 to compensate for the Travel Fee, which will now not be added separately The new Fee Schedule will be implemented for 2020 -21 School Year, though beginning in the Fall of 2019, new Playoff Fees began

12 Bowling Contract Negotiating for 2020 -21 10 -Year contract ends 2019 -20 Bowling Proprietors have covered all expenses during the first 10 years: Coaching Supplements, Lane rentals for practices/games, Balls/Shoes if needed Bowling Proprietors initial ask for a renewed 5 -year contract: District will begin to pay Coaching Supplements Total Paid for 2017 -18: $28, 022. 85 Total Paid for 2018 -19: $31, 557. 91 Facility Use will be charged beginning in year 4 Schools will then be assessed a facility use fee of $725 each, for use of their home bowling location, for practices and games
13 Lacrosse Contract Ends in 2020 -21 10 -Year Contract ends 2020 -21 Friends of Brevard Lacrosse (FBL) Covers all expenses (No cost to Brevard Public Schools): Coaching Supplements, Facility Use (lights, etc), Athletic Trainers, Equipment, Uniforms Each Lacrosse Player is responsible for a $250 participation fee Students can pay or most schools participate in fundraising where students can “work down” the $250 requirement Schools use Lacrosse Gate to cover expenses, and then the FBL is responsible for any deficit at the end of the season Coaching Supplements: 2017 -18 ($78, 726) and 2018 -19 ($79, 317)
14 Pending Legislation - Athletics SB 1696 and HB 7011 – Student Athletics Both address the requirement of each High School to have the following: To make a “Cooling Zone” available at all outside athletic events which can include a cold-water immersion tub. Language describes a 100 -gl tub. Each High School will have a temperature device that measures temperature, humidity, sun angle, and wind and cloud cover. Such a device is a Wet. Bulb Globe Temperature device, known as a WBGT 100 -Gallon Immersion Tubs can run from $150 to $1300 online HB 7011 states they can cost up to $8, 000 each, as “it is unclear how many schools would need to purchase tubs to comply with the requirements of the bill” WBGT can cost between $150 - $500 online, depending on specifications
15 Athletic Assistance from District Annually, 2017 -2020 Through 2017 -20, BPS provided $200 k Annually: High Schools (Inc. Edgewood/West Shore) $11, 800 Jr/Sr High Schools (CB, CHS, SC) $12, 600 Middle Schools (11 Traditional) $ 800 The above funds are for athletics, in general, for each school. Expenses could include officials’ fees, transportation, security, equipment, supplies, uniforms, etc.
16 Survey of other Districts on Athletic Funding Assistance other Districts provide their High Schools for Athletic Assistance: Lake - $25, 000 for Transportation Lee - $50, 000 for Transportation, security, officials, and ticket takers Manatee - $30, 000, and looking to increase for 2020 -21 Marion – Only county that responded which does not offer funding Osceola - $20, 000 for Officials and an additional $15, 000 for Maintenance Sarasota - $38, 000 for Transportation Seminole - $20, 000 for Athletics to utilize as needed St. Lucie - $20, 000 for Transportation Plus another $23, 000 for Equip. and Uniforms
