Delivery Points Addresses in the AMS database are the official addresses assigned by the local planning authority including possible secondary addresses assigned by building management. Local planning authority assigns the addresses and the Postal Service adopts the addressing. Addresses in AMS reflect actual delivery points, physical addresses or variants of actual delivery points. AMS does not support addressing for antenna sites, cell towers, meter pits, culverts etc. Two main ways to get addresses into AMS: Carrier/local Post Office Address Provider sends Electronic or hardcopy data flows to AMS
USPS standard Address Update Process Letter Carrier Notes new house or building, delivery point/s then added to edit sheet USPS typically likes to see new Delivery points added when in build process, when possible. Business or Residence Local Postmaster reviews and OKs the addition to edit sheet Edit sheet updates sent hardcopy or electronically to AMS office AMS reviews, then Codes the change or seeks clarification Address added to AMS database-3 days to 3 weeks to Internet
Alternate Address Data Flows to AMS Many Counties and Cities send AMS office new addresses and/or updates Can be hardcopy Can be electronic USPS data system scan for higher volume -missing delivery points, PMDPs GMT (Growth Management tool) Various USPS Data systems identify non match addresses
ADDRESS UPDATES or CHANGES Locatable Address Conversion System-LACS Links old address to new address Used primarily for city or county address updates USPS support of the old address -13 months, minimum. Often the old address is supported for decades Both addresses will sort and be valid to the carrier All Mailers who run CASS will input old address and return new address. (LACS Link)

GEOSEGS (+4) 2 Main Types Both sides of the mile in the country A block face within a city All patrons on a geoseg belong to one carrier & one ZIP code
Physical addresses that are not mailing addresses USPS ¼ Mile Radius rule PO box customers Process exists to show physical for customers who do not seek or refuse delivery Benefits-Allows customer increased flexibility with addressing at certain websites Customers must still use PO Box number on all correspondence-Four line address Jane Customer 101 Main ST PO Box XXX City, State ZIP
Growth Management ZIPS-If the block or mile is defined or listed in AMS then all patrons on that block or mile w/b that same ZIP Undefined miles(no customers on Geoseg) up for review. Contact me if questions arise. USPS would consider who can be most efficient if more than one carrier in the area CBUs (Cluster Box Units)are always the preferred form of delivery where possible Builders, developers and customers must contact the Local Post Office to request delivery. USPS would determine Delivery Mode and Location of receptacle USPS adds 1 to 1. 5 million new delivery points yearly
Extras Plats-Before USPS adds we like the structure to be underway prior to adding to database. Otherwise, these addresses start to generate mail to a bare lot. USPS. com-
