Additive Identity Property “ 0” is the additive identity. The sum of any number and 0, is the number.
Multiplicative Identity Property “ 1” is the multiplicative identity. The product of any number and 1, is the number.
Additive Inverse Property Add the opposite. The sum of any number and its opposite is 0.
Multiplicative Inverse Property Multiply by the reciprocal, The product of any number and its reciprocal is 1.
Closure Property The sum or product of any two real numbers is a real number.
Commutative Property Order doesn’t matter.
Associative Property Dating property; groups don’t matter.
Distributive Property Multiply then add OR add then multiply.
Tips l l Distributive: “distribute”. . . look for a number outside parenthesis to move! Commutative: order changes. . . You go from home to school; later you go from school to home. Associative : groupings change. . . look for parentheses to change. Identity : what should you add/multiply to keep the same number?
