Luke 19: 41 As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it and said, "If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace—but now it is hidden from your eyes. ” 3
How can we experience peace in the face of anxiety? 4
John 20: 19 -21 On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together…Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you. ” After he said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you. ” 5
God does not give you peace so that you’ll have a better week. He doesn’t give you peace so that you’ll have a good night’s sleep. God gives you peace so that you can make an impact. Divine peace is primarily for the purpose of enabling you to participate in God’s mission 6
God’s peace is not given as an upgrade to our happiness portfolio. God’s not here to diagram a more pleasurable life for us. God grants peace as a freedom and a release into purposeful serving, worshiping, and evangelizing. He liberates us from the things that burden our hearts so that we can be freed up for kingdom mission. 7
If you want happiness for an hour, take a nap. If you want happiness for a day, go fishing. If you want happiness for a month, get married. If you want happiness for a year, inherit a fortune. If you want happiness for a lifetime, help someone else. 8
