Transports within Europe - Examples • Even though borders are closed, a transport within Europe can be without issues as there are exemptions on many borders • Handover of products at the border Poland/Germany; Slubice/Frankfurt Oder • Hub at the Heathrow Airport in London 5

Travel Waiver • All registries should work on receiving/creating a formal document which states that stem cell couriers are excluded from the travel restrictions • The delivering and receiving country should hand over a document to the courier company or courier which states the urgency of the transport and that the courier is allowed to enter the country 6

Possible Cargo Solution • Together, time: matters, NMDP, ZKRD, DKMS and WMDA have developed a possible Cargo solution where fresh products can be shipped in the cockpit of the aircraft from Frankfurt to the US • Two test shipments of blood samples have been successfully performed • NMDP and DKMS have agreed that, starting April 6 th, all products from DKMS will be shipped using this solution, as Cargo flights are the most stable flights and the number of Cargo flights has increased 7

Possible Cargo Solution Three transport sections required (road-air-road/air) Routing via one central airport in each country HUB to HUB in the air, the rest on the road or air Involvement of 3 different couriers/persons for 1 blood stem cell transport Six transitions of the product from one person to the other. It must be ensured that the product is never unattended. The pilot takes the product with him into the flight cabin so that it is always accompanied during the actual "cargo flight". Transportation by cargo aircraft can only take place under customs control. This means that the necessary customs documents must be available for each transport. Countries with experience in receiving cord blood shipments will know what is required Assuming that one cargo plane flies per day, the collections must be timed accordingly All in all, transport by means of the cargo process may take longer, as more transitions and handling by different people are involved. Adaptation of documentation and accompanying documents will also require more time 9

Cryopreserved Shipments • Cryopreservation is recommended these days • This could be the last option if no passenger flights are available or couriers do not get a waiver to enter a country • Many registries do have experience with cord blood shipment • Cord blood banks to support in case a registry does not have the experience to ship or receive a product • TC’s need to accept cryo products 12

Health & Availability Check (HAC) • Detailed information session with the donor on the phone • HHQ with screening for Covid-19 • Check availability and product preference • Report back results to TCs and Registries • TC can start workup whenever needed and CT/VT samples are drawn at medical examination 15

Workup • Bone marrow collection capacity may decrease as in most hospitals, surgeries are only possible in urgent cases • Surgery facilities need to be kept free for corona patients as they have ventilation equipment • Donors have to travel to the collection center and need a document, that they are allowed to travel • Support donors with travel arrangements; instead of public transportation, use car services • Shortage of hotels 16
