There are 3 types of power tools: electric (AC - wall plug or DC - battery), pneumatic (air), or hydraulic (fluid pressure). Examples of each can be a drill (electric), nail gun (pneumatic), and Porta-Power (hydraulic).

Never use the trigger lock on a power tool.

Make sure the tool is disconnected from the power source (electric, pneumatic, or hydraulic) before replacing blades, bits or servicing the tool.

Drill bits are held in place by the drill chucks. Chucks can be either keyed or keyless. Be sure the bit is tightened in the drill before operating the drill

Keep the drill's air vent clean with a small brush or stick. Airflow is crucial to the maintenance and safety of the drill.

Power tools should only be operated with the proper ground fault protection (GFCI).

Proper ground fault will prevent the operator of an electrical tool from getting shocked.

Pneumatic drills may be used when there is no source of electricity or in wet conditions.

The upper and lower blade guards keep the operator of a circular saw safe. DO NOT USE if either one is not in place. The purpose of the guards is to keep the operator from touching the blade.

Always be sure the tool is turned off before plugging into a power source.

The saber saw (jig saw) is used to make intricate or curved cuts.

A power miter saw combines the miter box with a circular saw allowing it to make straight or mitered cuts.

Angle grinders (also called side grinders) can be used to grind away hard, heavy materials ans to grind welds plates or pipes

The bench grinder should have a maximum of 1/8" space between the tool rest and the wheel, wheel guards in place and should be securely mounted.

When using a pneumatic tool for the first time read the instructions and safety requirements. Most manufactures recommend a few drops of oil be added to the air inlet before use each day.

Always remove the air hose before attempting repairs to an air nailer.

When using an air wrench always wear safety glasses and maintain a balanced body stance.
