Task 1. 10 - Condition monitoring of transportation systems • Task leader SKF • Contributors: RTC, LKAB, Boliden, SKF, LTU, EISTEC • Start: M 1 - End: M 45 • • • Goals: Energy management of embedded sensors Communication from enclosed locations Data and information security Integration to SOA enabling service and device configuration and system integration www. arrowhead. eu 1
Task 1. 10 – Iron ore Rail line Pilot will be from LKAB mine in Malmberget to Lulea www. arrowhead. eu 2
Task 1. 10 – Pilots • Three phases for 2013 -2014 • Phase one October 2013 install 8 end to check for interconnectivity and general operation. • Leave endcaps to successfully survive Swedish winter • April 2014 Installed 16 end caps for extended trial to gather data on track and bearing conditions. • Plan to run for 3 months • Q 4 2014 Extended trial with multiple wagons. www. arrowhead. eu 3
Task 1. 10 – Smart Endcap Pre pilots at LKAB • October 2013 install 8 end caps for a week. • Leave endcaps to survive Swedish winter • April 2014 Installed 16 end caps • Supported 2 modes of operation – network and stand alone • Plan to run for 3 months www. arrowhead. eu 4
Task 1. 10 – a short video See http: //www. youtube. com/watch? v=Afr. Zu. V 5 g. NCM Wireless system is pink end cap at around 20 seconds www. arrowhead. eu 5
6 Original Concept • Add Condition Monitoring such that we can measure the real operating conditions a bearing is experiencing and wirelessly transmit the results back to the driver and/or train maintenance operations team • Mount the wireless nodes to each wheel • The wireless mesh network forms automatically over the journey of the train Smart TBU Wagon Router www. arrowhead. eu
Experience! • • • Wireless performance not as good in field as in lab Lack of access to trains limits test options Time to form mesh is unacceptable (20 Wireless. Hart nodes = 3 hours!) Long thin network (560 nodes) easily become clogged Mesh reforms dynamically which is a problem on train www. arrowhead. eu 7
Next Steps • Extend 1 year pilot starting Q 4 2014 using Malmberget to Lulea line. • Current system uses Wireless. Hart; • Link to Arrowhead framework is via OPC-UA and PC software • Possibly move Arrowhead frame work down to node levels • Current system uses primary batteries. • Move to power harvesting with improved power management (8. 5. 1) • Improve methods of coping with wireless links (8. 4. 1) • Optimise wireless link quality via modelling and validation (8. 4. 2) www. arrowhead. eu 8
